Mike Green, MATR Owner/Founder and Senior Instructor
Mike Green founded Mid-Atlantic Technical Rescue in 2009 at the request of fellow rescue instructors, co-workers, and firefighters throughout the region. He has been involved with the fire service--rescue work in particular--since he was a young teenager growing up in a small town volunteer fire department in Carroll County, Maryland (Union Bridge Fire Department). In addition to his many years of volunteer experience, which include several years at the United Fire Department in Frederick, Maryland, he also has over 30 years on the job for the Montgomery County, Maryland Fire/Rescue Department. Mike has worked on several Rescue companies there, and is currently the Station Commander at Fire Station 29 (Technical Rescue Station) and Captain of the Special Operations Heavy Rescue. In addition to the Montgomery County Technical Rescue Team, he is also a charter member of the Carroll County, Maryland Advanced Technical Rescue Team. Furthermore, in addition to MATR, he is also a lead instructor for Ropes That Rescue, a world renown rope rescue school in Sedona, Arizona. He has taught various disciplines of technical rescue around the region including for FEMA's Urban Search and Rescue system, which he has been a part of for over 20 years. Recreationally, he has experience with rock climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering, and whitewater paddling, with each having its application to areas of technical rescue. He has an Associates Degree in Engineering which was sought solely for its role in technical rescue. He resides near Frederick, Maryland with his wife and children.
