Michael Johns
Mike Johns joined MATR in 2010 and has served as an instructor for the Heavy Vehicle Extrication, Cell Tower Climbing and Rescue, and TTR programs. He has spent most of his fire service career involved with technical rescue. Mike has been a career firefighter with Montgomery County Fire & Rescue for the past 14 years. He has spent over 12 of those years assigned to Stations 29 and 31, two of the department's Special Operations/Technical Rescue stations. He is currently a Master Firefighter at Station 29 assigned to the Special Operations Heavy Rescue. Mike is a member of Montgomery County's Technical Rescue Team and an Assistant Rescue Manager for the department's FEMA Urban Search & Rescue team, Maryland Task Force 1. His instructor experience includes teaching for the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Training Academy, the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, and the FEMA Structural Collapse Specialist program. In addition, Mike holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He obtained his degree prior to starting his fire service career and has found it immensely useful when working in the technical rescue discipline. Mike lives near Frederick, Maryland with his wife and son. |
